With reports of a nationwide shortage of truck drivers, there were recent concerns reported that pumpkins may not be as plentiful this year.
There is no shortage of pumpkins, however, as the growing season nears end.
Plenty of pumpkins have arrived at Williams Foods in Piedmont. And weekend rushes on pumpkins have resulted in more being brought in during recent days, said Williams produce manager Timm Williams.
Williams said the supply for the Piedmont store is intact this season and there have been no shortages.
Pumpkins of large and medium sizes were arranged this week on racks in front of the Williams storefront.
“Were pricing medium and large, all the same, under jack-o-lanterns$5.99 each,” Williams said.
“We’ve got a full display. Our warehouse so far has not run out,” Williams said. “We’ve not been affected.”
The pumpkins for sale this week at Williams were grown in Hudson, Colorado.
“Plenty are available,” Williams said.
He said customers buy up the pumpkins in stock on the weekends mostly.
With two weekends to go before Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31, the supply is expected to last, he said.
This year there will not be a pumpkin patch just north of Williams Foods at the Piedmont Roundup Club.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to have the volunteer numbers we needed to host a pumpkin patch this year,” reports Crystal Denker, Roundup Club secretary. “It is our hope to continue it at some point in the future.”
Williams Foods is located at 410 Piedmont Road South. The telephone number is 405-373-0300.
