A lockdown at Piedmont High School has been lifted, and authorities are investigating a threat found written on a bathroom wall Friday, school officials reported.
Police Chief Scott Singer said the hand-written note in a bathroom wall threatened a shooting.
“At this point we have gone through the school,” Singer said. “We were there strictly for security measures only and we are taking a look at it and see what we will find. It is not all known at this time.”
An updated from school officials read Friday morning was released:
UPDATE AT 10:23 a.m.: After a thorough investigation and sweep by local law enforcement, the lockdown at Piedmont High School has been lifted. Students are resuming normal activity and may now enter and exit the building.
Administrators at Piedmont High School were notified of a possible threat made in writing in a bathroom stall at the high school. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement have been contacted in regards to this threat. Local law enforcement is currently investigating this situation.
A statement posted on the district social media site Friday morning read:
“Student and staff safety is a top priority at Piedmont Schools. Administrators at Piedmont High School were notified of a possible threat made in writing in a bathroom stall at the high school. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement have been contacted in regards to this threat. Local law enforcement is currently investigating this situation. During this investigation, students and staff are on lockdown. Students will not be permitted to enter or leave the building.
All threats at Piedmont Public Schools are investigated promptly and thoroughly. We will continue to be vigilant regarding this situation and any other potential security concerns. As always, we encourage our students and families to report any questionable behaviors.”
