Piedmont sent its homecoming crowd home happy Friday evening.

The Wildcats used a bushel of big plays to rout the Guymon Tigers 70-6 to improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Piedmont’s normally methodical offense churned into high gear Friday, scoring on multiple cross county jaunts. The Wildcats defense found the end zone, too.

With PHS already in front 14-0 in the first quarter, sophomore quarterback Josh Mars broke free for a 62-yard touchdown run. Mars didn’t control the snap cleanly to start the play, but stayed calm and collected the ball then found plenty of open space around right end.

Mars carried six times for 100 yards in the first half and added his first career passing touchdown. Mars’ 1-yard plunge got Piedmont on the board to cap a 63-yard drive on the Wildcats first possession of the game.

Jacob Anglin joined the act with a 25-yard carry for a touchdown one play after a Guuymon fumble.

Cole Riggs returned an interception 45 yards for a score and added a 35-yard reception touchdown, both in the first half.

On the final play of the second quarter, Israel Robles added another huge gain when he rumbled 91 yards for a touchdown.

Cannon Wood got into the big play parade with a 40-yard touchdown run on Piedmont’s first possession of the second half. He totaled 79 yards on eight carries.

PHS snuffed out Guymon’s only scoring chance in the first half by blocking a 25-yard field goal try.

Ty Wagner added a 58-yard touchdown run for Piedmont in the third quarter. Kyle McGougan capped the scoring with a 4-yard run.

Piedmont travels to Western Heights Thursday.
