Piedmont has a chance to start its climb up the district standings Friday night at F&M Bank Stadium as the ‘Cats host a struggling Guymon squad for a 7 p.m. kick.

Piedmont (0-3, 0-1) has been close to playing its best in each of its first three games. Against Putnam City North, Piedmont’s defense slowed down an explosive Panthers offense. In Week 2 vs. Noble, the Wildcats rolled up 481 yards rushing. Last week, PHS battled a surging Guthrie squad until the Blue Jays put the game away with a late drive.

Jacob Anglin ran for 100 yards on 10 carries versus Guthrie and Kolten Luschen added a 9-yard rushing touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Josh Mars added a 2-yard touchdown run.

The Guymon game is a chance to build momentum at the start of a two-week stretch that ends with another winnable game at Western Heights.

Guymon makes the more than four-hour trip southeast from the panhandle in search of its first victory after starting the season 0-4. Last week, the Tigers lost their district opener to Carl Albert 42-6.

PHS won 57-0 at Guymon last season and has never lost to the Tigers.
