The 2021 Founders Day and Junklahoma events have filled downtown Piedmont streets with thousands of people Saturday.
The day started with a fun run with some runners who wore superhero costumes. Karl Greene was with his daughter Kamarianna Greene. Kamarianna was dressed as Supergirl. She ran a full mile. And dad walked, he said.
Gregory Neff and Blake Lippert were at their first Junklahoma and Founders Day Saturday.
“It’s awesome,” Lippert said. “We are looking for some treasures and found a few already,” Lippert said.
He said he scored some dressers for his new house in Piedmont.
Tami Clark, a volunteer with Junklahoma, said the day started out fabulous.
“There is a great crowd and perfect booths with all kinds of stuff,” Clark said.
Fongy Borjas, 12, and other seventh grade football players walked in the Founders Day parade down Piedmont Road and tossed candy to onlookers.
Hunter Spencer, Gavin Mason, Willie Cruz joined him in the walk with Coach seventh grade Coach, Dirick Hatfield. The junior varsity players also were in the parade and rode on floats.
The fun continues Saturday afternoon with music, a petting zoo, pony rides and more.
