Piedmont fans can plan on at least one extra trip to Shawnee in the next two years.

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association board of directors on Wednesday approved new football districts for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

Shawnee is replacing Woodward in District 5A-II. Western Heights has been replaced by Oklahoma City Southeast.

Below is the full district:

District 2: Carl Albert, Guthrie, Guymon, Lawton Eisenhower, McGuinness, Piedmont, Shawnee, Southeast

The next three seasons will almost certainly be the football program’s last as a member of 5A. The most recent Average Daily Membership figures show that Piedmont is one spot away from bumping to 6A-II, which will probably take place in 2024-25.

Basketball, cross country and volleyball should bump to Class 6A for the 2022-23 season.
