With a big letter “P” on the side to represent Piedmont Public Schools, and the year the city was established also painted on the side, “Piedmont, Established 1903,” a new fire truck has arrived.
Engine One is ready for service.
The new engine was delivered to the station in Piedmont May 11.
The cost was $504,000. The engine is a 2021 model Pierce Enforcer Pumper.
Currently the department has two pumpers and a third one is being built to take the place of the old Engine One. About four months ago, the Engine One truck, a 2006 model. was rear-ended at Piedmont Road near N.W. 164. The driver was injured but not hospitalized. No firefighters.
“This new truck is a joy to be able to take possession of,” Fire Chief Andy Logan said. “It is going to provide us with a lot of things we have never had before. The efficiency that comes with the newly-designed fire engines is a lot better than the older ones. My hope is that this rig is maintenance free for some time.”
Logan said we hope to have it in service and.
It has a side-mounted pump instead of one mounted on the top. It also has a bigger pump, 1500 gallons per minute. The fire truck is being outfitted, and should be ready to go in a couple of weeks, Logan said.
