A Youthful Offender charge, alleging first-degree rape, was then filed Wednesday morning at the Canadian County Court Clerk’s office, District Attorney Mike Fields said. The alleged rape happened March 20, court documents show.

The case has been assigned to Special District Judge Khristan Strubhar. A court hearing will be set to determine whether the 17-year-old is prosecuted as a juvenile or as an adult.

Fields explained that the Youthful Offender charge is for those 16 or 17 years-old and are accused of a serious felony. A date for a court-hearing had not been set Wednesday.
