Lady Wildcats knock off Duncan for Class 5A regional title

Piedmont’s Lady Wildcats basketball team did not look like one that had missed four straight games on their schedules when they faced Duncan on Feb. 27.

The 2019 state champs won the 2021 Class A Regional Tournament championship over Duncan 72-23.

Their games against Del City, Feb. 9, Shawnee Feb. 12, Guthrie, Feb. 15 and Noble, Feb. 20, were canceled.

Piedmont is ranked third in Class 5A and has a 13-5 record.

“We played well in regionals,” Head Coach Eric Carr said. “We’re excited to play!”
Next up for the Lady Cats is Shawnee.

Piedmont faces Shawnee at 6 p.m Thursday at Collett Field House in Piedmont. The winner will advance to the state championship

Shawnee defeated Ardmore on Feb. 27 39-33. With a record of 11-8, Shawnee is ranked 11th.

The Piedmont boys season ended Feb. 26 without a win.

The boys record was 0-14, losing their final game to Southeast 55-78.
Coach Wil Scofield looks forward to progress ahead.

“I’m proud of all our kids and what we had to endure this year,” Scofield said. “We have a very young, mentally tough group returning. I’m looking forward to a full off-season and excited about the future of our group.”
