From Staff Reports
Piedmont Public Schools staff members have now received COVID-19 vaccines, district officials report.
The district administration worked with district nurses, volunteer nurses, and Passport Health to provide more than 300 COVID-19 vaccines to staff members on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Superintendent Dr. James White said the vaccines were important to provide to educators.
“We believe this is a huge step toward regaining a sense of normalcy for our school community,” White said.
White said the district “has been dedicated” to in-person school for students while following CDC guidance “as closely as possible,” including a mask mandate for all students and staff.
Students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade have been in school five days a week, while middle and high school students have been on an alternating A/B schedule by last names this school year. Virtual learning was provided to students the week before winter break and two weeks after winter break to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus.
“It was important to us as a district to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to our staff as soon as possible,” White said.
The district has more than 4,500 students grades pre-k through 12 with 425 full-time employees.
