There were more than just s’mores in store during “S’mores Christmas” in Piedmont.
As part of the month of festivities, A Piedmont Country Christmas, drew people to Monroe Avenue on Friday evening, Dec. 11.
Shawn Shropshire of Piedmont portrayed Santa Claus, and he waved at the festival-goers from a sleigh.
The Grinch was right behind him. Tom Swenson played the Grinch character and rode in the parade in a cherry-picker basket.
A wagon was pulled down the street by a few beasts of burden, a team of mules and drivers Trey and Tyler Cornman. And people lined up to take turns shooting free throws at basketball hoops.
Tim and Noemi Shaeffer strolled along Monroe Avenue, Tim also dressed as Santa Claus.
Near the open fire pit for roasting marshmallows were Oliva Blackketter with daughers Henley and Mila. Olivia Blackketter is the children’s specialist at the Piedmont Public Library.
Movies were played outdoors with a projector and the side of the Simpson Grain Elevator as the screen.
This Friday is the last event of the series of festivities in A Piedmont Country Christmas.
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be “A Grand ol’ Christmas on Monroe Avenue. County Music, Christmas music, carriage rides, favorite local barbecue, face-painting, a mechanical bull, ace-throwing, boutique shopping, Christmas shopping, and musical entertainment is in store.
On Friday, Dec. 4, Mayor Kurt Mayabb flipped the switch on the downtown Christmas tree that will continue to light up Piedmont with a bright green glow through the holiday season.
