Piedmont football season ends at El Reno in 42-14 loss

Wildcats six turnovers doom 5A district playoff game

Three consecutive miscues by the Piedmont Wildcats’ offense turned into points for the El Reno Indians Friday night in the first half of a 5A district football playoff game at El Reno Memorial Stadium.

Three more in the second half cost the offense chances to score. And El Reno added on a touchdown to make it 42-14 as time ran out on the season.

The fourth quarter opened with Piedmont trailing 27-14. Levi Davis threw an interception, the fifth turnover by the Wildcats. A fumble would make the sixth mistake of the game.

The Wildcats first drive in the third quarter into El Reno territory had help from an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Indians.

A holding penalty and a sack almost halted the Wildcats’ offensive possession, but a roughing the punter penalty kept the drive alive. But Davis had a pass picked off at the 6-yard line, the fourth turnover of the night for the Wildcats.

Piedmont was able to get on the scoreboard with a Levi Davis touchdown pass to a wide open Cole Riggs. Joey Mars scored for Piedmont before the end of the second quarter.

Piedmont then put another drive together to score with just over a minute to go in the first half.

El Reno led at halftime 27-14. The Wildcats received the football to open the second half.

El Reno’s quarterback Dorian Plumley answered with another Indians’ touchdown pass.

Decata Warrior had a 35-yard run with less than a minute left in the second quarter.

El Reno had a 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Piedmont’s quarterback Levi Davis fumbled at the Wildcats own 30-yard line with about two minutes to go in the first quarter. The point after attempt failed.

The first quarter ended in favor of El Reno, 6-0.

El Reno received the kickoff to open the game after Piedmont won the toss and deferred to the second half.

The Indians moved to the ball to midfield before Caden Hendren sacked Plumley.

Plumley completed an 11-yard pass to the 27 of Piedmont two plays later.

El Reno faced a fourth down and 3 yards to go with 8:15 to go in the first quarter.

The Wildcats managed to hold the El Reno offense and took over on downs.

The Wildcats tried to convert a fourth and one, but running back Decata Warrior was dropped for a 9-yard loss. El Reno took over at their own 45-yard line.

The Wildcats defense managed to shut down Plumley and took over with better field position for the offense at their own 34-yard line with about 3 minutes to go in the first quarter. Warrior fumbled a pitch from quarterback Levi Davis, but was able to fall on the ball and take a 5-yard loss.

Davis fumbled at the Wildcats 30-yard line with under two minutes to go in the first quarter.

On fourth down and 5-yards Dorian Plumley scored on a 25-yard run.

El Reno recovered a high snap that went over the head of the Piedmont punter and bounced around in the end zone. The Indians recovered, and the score was 13-0 after the miscue.

Piedmont had 12 plays for 51 yards in the first quarter.

El Reno quarterback Plumley was out due to injury when the Wildcats defeated El Reno 31-7 in the season opener for Piedmont in early September.

El Reno ended their season 8-2.

Piedmont defeated El Reno in the opening round of the 2019 season. The Wildcats season ended with a 5-4 record.

Piedmont opened the playoffs with a convincing win over Noble, 35-14.
