The Piedmont Wildcats boys cross country team has now won two of the last three Class 5A state championships.
The boys took first place overall in the 5K run Wednesday at Edmond Santa Fe High School, clipping Tahlequah, second and Guymon, third. The Piedmont boys’ team, with an overall score of 52 points and average time of 16:52.14, was led by senior Beckam Hartis who finished second individually.
Beckam, who is undecided about a college choice, had a time of 16:14;75, beaten by Elgin’s Gage Mcelhaney, 16:10.08.
Fares Maarouf, an Oklahoma City University commit, finished ninth individually with a time of 16:51.41.
Colby Ferbrache, a junior, was 10th with a time of 16:54.66.
Tanner Bailey finished 14th with a time of 17:04.95. Reese Fricke finished 20th with a time of 17:14.94. Fricke is a sophomore.
Dade Humes, a ninth-grader, finished 22nd with a time of 17:22.74
The girls sixth place finish was led by Rachel Caldwell, sophomore, 19th place, 20:46.64, and 25th place finisher Jillian Crawford, a sophomore, 21:05.33.
The girls team was awarded Wednesday as the Class 5A State Academic Champions.
The boys were state champions in 2018 and state runner-up in 2019.
