The rare late October ice storm that has kept the state in a frosty grip since Monday has caused more than 4,000 power outages in Piedmont.

Trees heavy with ice have fallen and lost branches, many that have collapsed on power lines.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. has reported 4,162 power outages in Piedmont.

Power was also out in Surrey Hills along Northwest Expressway.

Overnight, power lines went down on the John Kilpatrick Turnpike and were spread across all four lanes at Britton Road in Canadian County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. The power lines were cleared by 6 a.m. and the turnpike reopened, the patrol reported.
