The Piedmont Wildcats will roam into Class 6A territory Friday night to take on the Putnam City North Panthers in an early season, non-conference tussle.

The Panthers, in 6A-2, will host the Class 5A Wildcats at 7 p.m. at Putnam City Panther Stadium, 11800 N. Rockwell Ave.

Piedmont is ranked third in class 5A and Putnam City North is ranked 8th in 6A by Maxprepsports.com

The seating capacity at the Putnam City school is limited to 25% to ensure the safety of players and fans due to COVID-19, said Ryan Wagner, PCN’s athletic director.

Piedmont Schools received an allotment of 200 tickets.

Tickets have been distributed to Piedmont families of players, Wagner said. No tickets will be sold at the stadium.

The Piedmont Wildcats face the Putnam City North Panthers Friday, Sept 11 at PCN Stadim.

Piedmont opened their season with a convincing 31-7 victory over their Canadian County rivals El Reno. PCN did the same with their district rival, beating Putnam City High School 31-6 last week.

The Panthers, under Head Coach Ryan Laverty, feature a talented receiving corps with mostly returning starters on both sides of the ball.

The Wildcats offense is developing behind breakaway running backs, Wesley Morrison and Brock DeTar and receiving threat Caden Hendren. The defense showed signs of dominance against El Reno in the season opener. El Reno was without senior quarterback Dorian Plumley who was injured, and PCN will give the Wildcats defense an early season test.

Skies should clear Friday afternoon after a rainy morning. The temperature at kickoff should be 68 degrees with light wind.

Wagner said fans can park on the west side of the stadium by the gymnasium and Wildcat fans will sit in the north side stands.
