Two city council members in Piedmont took the Oath of Office Monday night after their recent elections.
Councilwoman Melissa Ashford, Ward V was sworn in by City Attorney Michael Segler as her family members, husband Jerry Ashford, daughter Isabella, son Zachary and father Joe Morgan stood by her side Monday.
The council elections that had been scheduled in April were moved to June 30 due to the pandemic.
Official results show Ashford was elected with 137 votes over Mandy Swatek who had 117 votes, the Oklahoma State Election Board reports.
Austin Redus was elected to the Ward III seat with 108 votes over Megan Dawson, who had 104 votes. The election results were recently upheld by a Canadian County judge after Dawson claimed irregularity in the race.
Al Gleichmann, the incumbent in Ward III, had 36 votes in the election. Austin Rohrs had 12 votes.
The results are official in all races, the election board reports.
Councilman John Brown, Ward IV resigned at the Monday, July 27 meeting. The council will take nominations and vote on a replacement for the seat.
