Red, white and blue gleamed under sunny Piedmont skies for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Although the fireworks show was canceled, the city sponsored a Patriotic Parade of Homes contest. A business was also picked as the best decorated in the city showing Fourth of July holiday spirit. The Trendy Sister was the first place business.

“I think it all went very well,” said Louanne Trammel, Piedmont’s special events coordinator.

There were winners selected from around the city. The winners took home $500 prizes.

Melissa Barry, owner at The Trendy Sister, said the Saturday sidewalk sale had a steady turnout.

“It was good. We were here from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m; Saturday for the sidewalk sale. It was definitely worth it,” Barry said.

In Ward I, the winning houses were 41 Hickory Circle by Nicole DesLaurier. The other Ward I house was Amber Watson’s at 408 Windmill.

Ward II did not have an entry.

In Ward III, Morgan Clifton’s decorations won at 2626 Parker Mill Trail.

The Ward IV winner was Sabre Folsom at 3893 Richards Way. And in Ward V the winner was Jessica Leland at 970 Olde Town Drive.

Trammel said 20 people won gift cards in a citywide raffle contest that businesses participated in.

A fishing tournament also took place over the weekend with cash prizes for winners.
Winners picked up prizes at City Hall Monday.
