Piedmont Schools names new high school principal

David Jewell has been named the new Piedmont High School principal, Piedmont Public Schools has announced.

Jewell has spent 15 years in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He has served Piedmont High School as an assistant principal over the past year, according to a news release from the district.

Jewell is passionate about furthering his education to best serve students and our team of educators, the news release states.

He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma in Social Studies Education and a master’s degree in Instructional Leadership in Academic Curriculum from the University of Oklahoma. He is now studying to receive his doctorate at Oklahoma State University with a completion date of 2023.

“I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know the students at Piedmont High School this past school year, and I look forward to continuing to lead students and our incredible staff,” Jewell said.

Jewell said he hopes to continue to build upon the trust he has started with the staff and students at the high school. He also looks to cultivate a growth mindset among faculty and staff and to continue to make the high school campus as safe and secure as possible.

Piedmont Superintendent, Dr. James White, commented on the new hire.

“Mr. Jewell’s positive leadership style, career experience, and personality make him a great fit as Piedmont High School’s Principal,” White said.

“We are eager to see him build upon the successes of our students, staff, and administrative team at the high school.”

Piedmont Public Schools estimated student population at Piedmont High School for the 2020-2021 school year is 1,250 students and growing, according to a news release from the district.
