Piedmont was well represented when the 2019-20 Suburban Conference awards and teams were announced last week.
Junior Delanie Crawford was named Player of the Year while seniors Tyeshia Andersona (First Team) and Rain Peyton (Honorable Mention), junior Maddy Lee (Second Team), sophomore Triniti Harmon (Honorable Mention) and freshman Jillian Crawford (Third Team) were all selected to postseason squads. Piedmont coach Eric Carr was also named Oklahoma Coaches Association Large West Coach of the Year with rosters to be released at a later date.
“These kids had a great season even though it didn’t quite have the ending we were looking for,” Carr said. “We were really proud of the way they competed and being able to be honored for their hard work. They definitely deserve the recognition.”
Delanie Crawford averaged a team-high 18.3 points per game on route to a second straight dominating season. She also averaged 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists as well as two steals per game. She scored 23 points with nine boards in the team’s area championship game win over Lawton Mac on March 5.
“Delanie was the best player in the conference this year,” Carr said. “She had another big season and continued to grow as a player and teammate. She’s one of the best players in the state and a leader for our team and program.”
Anderson was nearly named conference Player of the Year, averaging 10.3 points per game to go along with 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She also led the team with 2.2 steals per game.
“Ty was basically 1A for Player of the Year,” Carr said. “She was right there, but still ended up making First Team, which is a cool deal for her. She was huge for us this year on the floor and off. She became our go-to player down the stretch.”
Lee was named to the Third Team last year and takes a step up after scoring 4.8 points per game to go with 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists from the point guard position. Peyton stepped into a starting role this season and averaged 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Harmon averaged 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds while Jillian Crawford scored 3.8 points with 3.4 rebounds per game.
“There were so many things that Rain did for us this year that go unnoticed,” Carr said. “Maddy had a great year as well and really matured a lot. Triniti and Jillian both stepped up and grew into more prevelant roles for us. We’re very excited for all the girls to receive these honors.”
Piedmont finished the season 22-4 with regional and area championship titles as well as the Mustang Holiday Classic championship during the regular season. They were set to take on East Central (Tulsa) in the first round of the state tournament on March 12 at Oral Roberts University before the season was postponed and ultimately canceled due to COVID-19.
