Essential items were scarce at Piedmont stores and those in the surrounding area as the COVID-19 cases increased in the state.
There are 81 cases statewide Monday, with two cases in Canadian County, 29 cases in Oklahoma County and 16 in Cleveland County, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported on its website.
At Williams Foods in Piedmont Sunday afternoon, a woman walked with a young girl who carried a smaller girl in a mask. The woman did not want her name used before she shopped.
Inside, the shelves were bare of toilet paper. Other items, such as sour cream, were out of stock.
The shelves in Yukon and Canadian County had the same shortages Sunday.
“We are doing everything we can to keep our shelves full in this time of need. We ask for your patience as we are trying to serve the community to the best of our abilities,” Thank You, Management,” reads a sign on the front door Sunday.
