Four members of the Canadian County Sheriff’s office were recognized for their efforts in traffic safety duty at the 27th annual Buckle Down Awards On March 12 in Tulsa, and a moment of silence honored the late Lt. Shirley Lanning.
Lt. Jason Glass, and Deputy Sheriff Vaughn Cannon both received Top Cop Awards for the proactive work in traffic safety enforcement; Deputy Sheriff Matt Capshaw was recognized for his occupant protection enforcement; Sgt. Austin Albrecht was recognized for his efforts in impaired driving enforcement, receiving Top Cop Awards. In all, over one hundred law enforcement officers from across the state were recognized at the event.
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West was a presenter at the awards program announcing the recipients of those receiving awards in the category of occupant protection. At the completion of the Occupant Protection awards portion of the program, Sheriff West was presented with a special proclamation in memory and honoring Lt. Shirley Lanning, who was tragically killed in a traffic collision while on duty on February 14th, which included a moment of silence in her honor.
“I’m very proud of the hard work and dedication of each of these deputy sheriffs in doing their part to make the motoring public safer in Canadian County, and was extremely touched that the program incorporated a moment of silence to honor Lt. Shirley Lanning,” Sheriff West said.
