Piedmont’s Mayor Kurt Mayabb has signed a proclamation and declaration of emergency Monday that will take effect at midnight in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

All Piedmont city parks and the George Fina Municipal Building will remain open to individuals, however, public or private gatherings, meetings or events are postponed or canceled until further notice. No permits for gatherings, meetings or events will be issued until the declaration expires, according to the proclamation.

“The spread of COVID-19 is a disaster affecting life, health, and safety of Piedmont residents and non-residents alike,” the proclamation reads.

All Piedmont authorities, boards, commissions, committees and trusts are postponed or canceled as well. The city has also canceled municipal court dockets. Cases scheduled for arraignment, hearing and trial will be rescheduled. This includes all juvenile dockets.

All gatherings are discouraged.

Owners of restaurants, bars and other privately-owned gathering places are highly encouraged to limit the number of patrons to give people at least 6 feet of space between each other. Take-out and delivery options for food or other items are encouraged.

The local gymnasiums and fitness facilities are urged to disinfect after activities.
