The Piedmont City Council asked the city staff to look into requesting a state audit.

The city council met in a special meeting Thursday. The only item on the agenda was to consider and discuss requesting an audit of the city of Piedmont to be performed by the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s office.

Kevan Blasdel, ward one councilman, said no action was taken.

“We didn’t do anything. We asked the staff to look into a request for an audit.” Blasdel said.

The staff will report back to the council at a future meeting.

The issue came up after the recent purchase of two pickups by city staff. Mayor Kurt Mayabb requested the audit. The two used pickups are for the building inspector and public works. The cost of the pickups was about $30,000 apiece.

City councilman John Brown, who represents ward four, said the money for the pickups was available in the budget.

“We have asked the staff to bring us back a report on the procedure to request an audit and the scope of it. We are not 100 percent sure we can request it,” Brown said.

The request for an audit will be considered again at the next meeting on Monday, March 23.
