After a tough five-game stretch, the Wildcats bounced back with their second straight win, knocking off Western Heights 42-30 Tuesday night at Collett Fieldhouse.
No. 15 Piedmont (8-8) held the Jets to just 26-percent shooting from the field while forcing 19 turnovers on route to a victory that comes off the heels of the team’s lone win in the Newcastle tournament – 61-45 over Class 4A No. 17 Doughlass.
Sophomore Jayce Daniels and senior Doran Hillman led the way offensively, each scoring in double digits.
Daniels scored a game-high 11 points with nine rebounds and two assists while Hillman scored 10 points. Senior Jarod Heath chipped in six points and a game-high 12 rebounds while freshman Thalen Hillman scored five point and junior Gabe Rhone-Dunn scored four. Sophomore Hadyn Rodriguez, junior Caden Hendren and senior Mason Teeter each scored two points.
Piedmont needed just two makes from three-point range and two makes from the free-throw line in the win.
The Cats scored 11 points off turnovers and 11 second chance points and dominated the paint with 30 points near the basket. The team also won the rebounding battle 42-36.
The Cats continue regular season action Friday night at home against Noble before a brutal stretch from Feb. 4 to Feb. 21.
