Nine players named to first team, three to second team after record-setting season

Piedmont set a school record with 12 players named All-District 5A-2 this week.

Nine players were named first team while three were named second team after helping lead the Wildcats to the best season in program history, which included a run to the Class 5A semifinals for the first time.

Quarterback Dylan Hampton, running backs Davontae Pickard and Colby Matlock, receiver Doran Hillman and linemen Jett Boyd and Callaway Meier were selected to the offensive first team while lineman Jarod Heath, linebacker Bo Hardy and defensive back Caleb Dixon were selected to the defensive first team. Running back Mason Teeter was selected to the offensive second team while linebacker Bryce DiGiacinto and defensive back Zaire Bartee were selected to the defensive second team.

BY THE NUMBERS

Hampton finished the season with 666 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes with just one interception. He also rushed for 369 yards and five touchdowns.

Davontae Pickard finished second in Class 5A in rushing with 1,453 yards. He rushed for 14 touchdowns and averaged 7.1 yards per rush. Matlock rushed for 628 yards and six touchdowns and caught two passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Teeter rushed for 192 yards and caught three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. The trio, along with Hampton, Boyd and Meier, helped lead Piedmont to a 5A-best 3,667 rushing yards this season.

Hillman led the Wildcats with 15 receptions for 383 yards this season and finished fourth in Class 5A with eight touchdown receptions.

Hardy led all of Class 5A with 153 tackles while also finishing with five sacks and one interception. He, Heath, DiGiacinto, Dixon and Bartee helped lead Piedmont to a 5A-best 13.8 points allowed per game this season.

DISTRICT AWARDS

Carl Albert’s Jayveion Traylor and Alphonse Joseph were named District Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year, Bishop McGuinness’ Dominic Richardson, Brynden Walker and Aaron Beck were named Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Year. Woodward’s Drake Parker was named Ironman of the Year.
