Tewell takes home first, Scoon places second in Westmoore Open

MOORE – Piedmont hit the mat for the first time Saturday, placing four at the Westmoore Open, the Wildcats’ inaugural preseason tournament of the year.

Junior Tyler Tewell, seniors Tabor McClure and Landis Scoon and sophomore Makaveli Ramirez each the campaign off to a good start, each placing in to the top-3 in their weight class, including a first-place run by Tewell at 113 pounds. Scoon, the state runner-up at 152 last season, finished second at 160. McClure, a state tournament consolation semifinalist from a year ago at 132, finished third at 152 while Ramirez finished third at 195.

Piedmont still has just over two weeks until its first dual against Class 6A Yukon, scheduled for Dec. 5. The Cats travel to Moore again Saturday for the Southmoore Open before heading to Edmond Memorial next Wednesday, Nov. 27, for the Pre-Turkey Open and final preseason tournament of the year.

JUNIOR HIGH, MIDDLE SCHOOL

Two middle schoolers, Jackson Blackburn (112) and Jayden Fuston (126), took home first place at Westmoore. Boston Ziegelgruber (92) placed third for the middle school boys while Salene Williams placed third in the middle school girls division. Will Geiger (155) placed second and Brogan Hardy (155) placed fourth for the Piedmont junior high team.
