If you want a glimpse into Piedmont’s future and overall program depth, just take into consideration the season the school’s junior varsity produced.

The Wildcat JV’s only loss of the season came last Thursday against Yukon. Before then, Piedmont had run off 18 straight wins, including victories over several varsity teams throughout the year. They also won varsity tournament championships at Putnam City and Cashion.

“We take a lot of pride in our JV team,” varsity coach Keith Coleman said. “Having a program that has 14 seniors, there’s not a lot of room for underclassmen on the varsity. It’s exciting to see them play so well. It makes us feel optimistic about the future.”

The Wildcats finished the season with a .397 team batting average while scoring 142 runs. Freshman Paige Atha led the team with 18 hits while driving in 15 runs. Freshman Aubrey Pyle led the team with six doubles and 14 RBI while also hitting a team-high .472. Freshman Karissa Fiegener, sophomore Morgan Meiwes and Teagan Honer all drove in 13 runs.

The team defeated JV and varsity squads from Yukon, Guthrie, Del City, Luther, Stillwater, Noble, Carl Albert, Mustang, Putnam City West, Midwest City and Deer Creek.

“We have kids on the team that in most circumstances would contribute on varsity,” Coleman said. “They want to play and compete and improve themselves. We’re grateful for them doing it the right way and showing up to work day in and day out.

“It’s going to pay dividends.”
