Sports Update: Cats continue postseason play

Piedmont’s spring sports teams are quickly turning the page from the regular season to the postseason as all five sports are either in the playoffs or getting set for regional action.

GIRLS SOCCER

The Wildcats defeated Carl Albert 2-0 Tuesday at F&M Bank Stadium to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Class 5A state playoffs. Kenley Gold (So.) and Brooke Welch (So.) each scored in the win. Piedmont moves on to face Bishop McGuinness on Friday at McGuinness in Oklahoma City on Friday.

BOYS SOCCER

Piedmont fell to Northwest Classen at Taft Stadium Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Wildcats lost 2-0 and finish their season with a 7-9 record after finishing third in District 5A-2.

BASEBALL

Piedmont is hosting a Class 5A regional, starting Wednesday with Del City, Noble and Woodward in town. The Cats take on Del City at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to take on either Noble or Woodward in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Coach Adam Skokowski’s team enters the postseason at 25-10 after splitting the final four games of the regular season following a two-game sweep to Carl Albert for the District 5A-2 title last week. TENNIS

The 2019 Class 5A regional tournament sites and pairing have been released. The Piedmont girls will head to Region III, hosted by Duncan, along with Altus, Crossings Christian, Durant, El Reno Lawton Ike and Lawton Mac. The Wildcat boys head to Region II, hosted by Claremore, along with Bishop Kelley, Carl Albert, Collinsville, Guthrie, Pryor and Tahlequah. TRACK & FIELD

Piedmont’s girls finished third in the 2019 Suburban Conference meet at Western Heights last Friday. The Wildcats now turn their focus to the 2019 regional meet this Saturday as racers look to qualify for the state meet May 10-11. The Wildcats have been assigned to the Edmond North regional along with Bishop McGuinness, Capitol Hill, Carl Albert, El Reno, Guthrie, Noble, Northwest Classen, Southeast and Western Heights. GIRLS GOLF

The Wildcats qualified for the 2019 Class 5A state tournament last week. The Wildcats are scheduled to be the second team to tee off at Hole No. 1 Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. CLICK HERE for Class 5A tee-times this week.

BOYS GOLF

Piedmont qualified for the 2019 Class 5A state tournament Monday after finishing third in the regional tournament at Crimson Creek in El Reno. The Cats shot a total score of 650, finishing behind Guthrie (600) and Bishop McGuinness (627). The Cats are set to tee off at 8:40 a.m. Monday in the first round of state at Lawton Country Club.
