The Piedmont swim teams competed against multiple teams from Class 6A and 5A at the 2018 Yukon Invitational last Saturday at the Mitch Park YMCA in Edmond.
Nine total swimmers for the Wildcats placed in eight different races in the event, leading to a 20th place finish for the boys team while the girls failed to place.
The boys were lead by five racers who placed in two races apiece, including sophomore Kaleb Welch who finished 15th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :26.16 and 16th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :59.87.
Sophomore Hunter Sharp and Karsten Widick also finished inside the top-30 in two different events. Widick finished 27th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:38.27 while Sharp finished 28th with a time of 1:39.46. Widick also finished 46th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.04 while Sharp placed 61st in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :31.26.
Jon Triston Aber also nabbed a top-30 finished, placed 30th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:48.52. He also placed 75th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:25.80. Gavin McLamb finished two spots ahead of Triston Aber in the 100-yard freestyle, in 73rd with a time of 1:24.48 and also finished 66th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31:82.
Renee Sims and sophomore Lauren Ranney combined for three top-30 finishes to help lead the Wildcats girls.
Sims placed 19th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:13.11 and 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:29.09 while Ranney placed 21st in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:35.47.
Sophomore Taylor Rycroft placed 31st in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :32.71 and junior Hailee Lindo placed 53rd in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:27.88 to round out the girls scores.
Altus won the meet with a combined score of 565 points behind the school’s boys team’s first-place finish and the girls’ second place finish. Shawnee finished second overall while Carl Albert finished third. Carl Albert won the girls meet.
Piedmont returns to action after Christmas break with the 2019 Metro Senior Classic on Jan. 5 before the Booker T. Washington meet in Tulsa on Jan. 10.
