A pair of Piedmont pitchers were selected to represent Team Oklahoma in the annual Junior Sunbelt Baseball Classic set to begin this weekend in Wilburton and McAlester.

Anthony Morejon and Jacob Ellis will play in the showcase tournament against all-star prep teams from Georgia, Missouri, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Canada, Arizona and others.

Both pitchers put together strong junior seasons for the Wildcats en route to earning their spot on Oklahoma’s roster.

Morejon, who will play for Team Oklahoma – Blue, tossed 32 1/3 innings with 20 strikeouts. His ERA ballooned to 6.08 late in the season after some rough outings.

Ellis, meanwhile, developed into the ace of Piedmont’s pitching staff by season’s end. The lefty threw 46 1/3 innings with 48 strikeouts and a 3.17 ERA.

Oklahoma’s gold and blue teams begin tournament pool play Friday morning vs. Team Mississippi and Team Texas.

Piedmont sophomore Caden Storts and Dylan Hampton were selected for the sophomore Sun Belt series held in Oklahoma City last week. Hampton was named to the All-Tournament team. Hampton, a third baseman, was the only player from the Oklahoma Royal chosen for the team.
