Canadian County Sheriffs bust trailer thieves in Piedmont

By Matt Montgomery

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office busted two men at 12:15 a.m., Oct. 26 at the northeast corner of 164th Street and Cimarron Road for Grand Larceny charges of a mobile home.
Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards said there have been a high number of trailer thefts in the northwest and northeast corners of Canadian County so the Sheriff’s Office set up a bait trailer and caught 29-year-old Aaron Towns and 34-year-old David Bradley Allen trying to steal it.

After the suspects hooked their truck up to the bait trailer on 164th and Cimarron, where the trailer had been, sheriff’s deputies followed the vehicle to the Northwest Expressway and Kilpatrick Turnpike, where they then pulled the vehicle over.

“After having had their rights read to them, they agreed to talk,” Edwards said. “Or I should say lie. They each gave my deputies different stories as to why they took the trailer. One said it belonged to a friend of his and the other said the driver owned it and they used it in their landscaping business.”
Edwards said the suspects were surprised when they learned that the trailer belonged to the Sheriff’s Office.
They were transported and booked in the Canadian County Jail.
