Board recognizes state competitors

Students from Piedmont’s High School and Middle School competing in state competition were given special recognition during the April Piedmont Board of Education.

A large group of students, their parents and families, were in attendance for the recognition of Piedmont students who have distinguished themselves in state competition.

Katherine Stroh, Oklahoma Academic All-State and National Merit Finalist, and Ann Elizabeth Tebow, Oklahoma Academic All-Stater were recognized by the school board, along with the High School Academic Team, consisting of Ashley Moore, Mollie Wilkinson, Wesley Dorn, Blake Thomas, Heath Urton, Jennifer Fallon and Nick Henderson. The PHS Ascademic Team is coached by Mike Eaton, head coach, and Claire Piersol assistant coach, The team finished fourth at the state competition.

The Middle School Academic Team which finished fourth in the state meet, was also recognized by the board. Team member, Tobias Johnson, was named to the All-State Tournament Team. Also on the Middle School team are Brice DiGiacinto, Sydney Deily, Jacob Shropshire, Stormey Warner, Brooke Heister and Tyce Honer. The team coach is Nikki Lujan.

Spell Masters – Representing Piedmont Middle School in the State Spelling Bee Competition were  Sangeetha Kurville, left  and Katie Hoover.  Kurville placed fourth and Hoover was name as a State Finalist.

Also honored at the meeting were Sageetha Kuruvilla, who was fourth in the state Spelling Bee, and Katie Hoover, a State Spelling Bee finalist.

Artistic – Andrea Moreno, left, and Zaree Larimer both were winners in the Oklahoma Alliance for Arts Bookmark Design Contest in the State Competition.

Zaree Larimer and Andrea Moreno were both winners of the Bookmark Design contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Alliance for Arts.
