The Piedmont Planning Commission held a special meeting last Thursday, 7 p.m., Nov. 15 to view the 2030 Comprehensive Plan final draft.

The Planning Commission voted to table their agenda to approve or disapprove the approval of the draft. They felt it needed an action agenda item added to their next meeting.

Piedmont City Manager Jim Crosby said the commission asked Piedmont’s new Community Development Director, Wade Hardin, to clean it up and make it into an action item.

“They felt it lacked the proper direction,” Crosby said. “They said it needed a little more to it, so that’s what they’re doing.”

He said the Planning Commission is at a consensus that the plan isn’t as comprehensive as they’d like it to be.

“Some of it may be a little cookie cutter and understanding the direction,” Crosby said.”

He added that there are several things that are very important to it and, one of the more important things is Piedmont’s zoning and Commissioner Ron Cardwell, a former civil engineer think that and roundabouts on Piedmont’s roadways is something that will get a lot of attention.

Crosby said with an action plan added to next month’s meeting gives the Planning Commission more leverage to get the Comprehensive Plan finalized.

Crosby is confident the tabled item at the last meeting should pass with no problem.

The next Planning Commission meeting is slated from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3.
