OSBI probes Piedmont police department alleged embezzlement

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is actively involved in an investigation into the disappearance of money from the Piedmont police department.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is involved in an active investigation of the alleged theft of $1,000 from the Piedmont police department petty cash fund.

OSBI Public Information Officer Jessica Brown confirmed OSBI is actively investigating the alleged embezzlement from the City of Piedmont.

The Canadian County District Attorney’s Office provided possible penalties for embezzlement.

According to the statute, embezzlement is defined as “the fraudulent appropriation of property of any person or legal entity, legally obtained, to any use or purpose not intended or authorized by its owner, or the secretion of the property with the fraudulent intent to appropriate it to such use or purpose.”

The penalties for embezzlement in Canadian County vary.
